The Maragusan Valley Development Cooperative ( MAVADECO ) was launched in the later part of 1969 founded by a Mary Knoll Missionary Priest, Father Walter Maxcey who took initiative to organize as credit union. The parish priest gave his full support to the union. Purposefully, MAVADECO was established to provide goods and services to its members and the community as well. At the start it was a credit union comprising 25 members with initial capital contribution of Php 1,250.00 for every member. Maximizing the initial capital contribution, the union started its lending services and received savings/fixed deposits enabling them to sustain and increased its income and savings. Consequently, the continuing aspiration for progress and development was always coupled with challenges and obstacles. On March 27, 2011 MAVADECO was converted into Maragusan Multipurpose Cooperative. The conversion into a multipurpose cooperative is an offshoot of the cooperative for the expansion of its services. Through the aid of KENNEMER, the Department of Agriculture, fermentation facilities where provided. Series of benchmarking where conducted to acquire the necessary techniques for cacao fermentation. As a result, more cacao product where discovered as potential market such as cacao dried beans, cacao nibs and tablea were given much attention because of the additional gain that will be generated for these product. To materialize the dream of producing tablea, the coop seek assistance of the different government agencies to assist the coop in acquiring cacao processing plant to be used to tablea making. With the aid of Divine Providence the government agencies had given grant to MAMPCO for tablea processing building, equipment, additional fermentation facilities and solar driers. Since the project was very attractive and promising to help farmers uplift their economic condition, another One Million grant received by MAMPCO to buy modern cacao processing facilities to make the tablea more competitive in the market either local or international market.
